welcoming, accepting and non-intimidating
2 months ago, I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone and scheduled an appointment to meet with Brad. Brad’s relaxed demeanor was welcoming, accepting and non-intimidating. From our conversation, I decided that semi-private sessions were the way to go for me as I am (dare to say it… a middle-aged woman) and these sessions are specifically designed for what I want to target and accomplish. The other aspect that I personally loved was that there are no more than 8 people in the gym during these sessions, so, therefore, the trainer is available but not all of their attention is directly focused on me and the number of people is not overwhelming or anxiety-provoking.
Brad, makes a point to introduce everyone informally and creates a comradery that allows people to feel welcome and accepted.
Since starting at Kilos, I have felt my energy level increase and my overall mood improve as well. I am, in fact entertaining the idea of going from 2 to 3 days a week for both the physical and emotional benefits that I have reaped.

I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I was young, and as I mentioned, that was a long time ago
Somehow or another, I became a septuagenarian. (If you’re really young, it means I turned 60.)
I knew when I turned 50 that I needed to keep moving. I did not want to age in place and get bulky and lazy. I did okay. Not great, but okay.
When I turned 60, it was evident that youth was in the rearview mirror. That’s fine, I have no problem getting old, I just want to continue to skydive, bungee jump, wrestle alligators, etc. (Okay, those are all exaggerations, but you get the idea.)
Luckily Brad Collins opened Kilos Performance & Fitness.
I had worked with Brad previously at another local gym, and I had liked the way he coached one on one. When he left, my fitness program went away. So when I found out he was taking over the potato shed, I was excited.
A year and a few months later, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I was young, and as I mentioned, that was a long time ago. I have more strength and stamina; my body is toned and I don’t wake up with aches and pains. Chronic back issues have resolved, same with the beginnings of arthritis in my toes...that, too, has gone away. He studies, he experiments, he tries things out and if they don’t work, he drops them fast. Major props for being willing to try.
Brad is focused, attentive, sharp, knows when you’re slacking off (as opposed to running out of steam) and can motivate without yelling and screaming. He’s great with youth and a fitness coach GOD for those of us nearing retirement. He wants to make people healthy and he does it without ego...just with a smile, a wink and some great stories, all while getting you to push your body to its (proper) limit.
Plus, unbelievably, he knows everybody’s name that every comes to the gym. Everybody.
Go try Kilos Performance and Fitness. You’ll thank me.

By trusting Brad and his extensive knowledge I was able to make a full recovery and continue to do what I love.
Brad Collins has been my lifting coach since he opened KILOS in 2018. At the time I was recovering from a severe back injury and at a place where I wasn't sure lifting, something I had done passionately for years, was going to be a part of my future. By trusting Brad and his extensive knowledge I was able to make a full recovery and continue to do what I love. I have since made the change from powerlifting to weightlifting and am currently training to compete in the near future, a feat I never imagined possible. Brad walks the fine line of pushing his athletes all while addressing their individual needs. Training can be mentally and physically challenging but Brad and his staff actively work to make the environment enjoyable for everyone. I'm proud to call KILOS my 'home' gym.

stay active into my senior years
I came to Kilos and Brad one year ago looking to get the kind of conditioning that would allow me to stay active into my senior years, doing the things that I love to do: playing lots of ice hockey and hiking 4000-foot peaks. I told Brad that I felt lucky to be doing what I do at age 61 and that I wanted to protect my joints from injury that could end it all. Brad has methodically pieced together programs that have provided the strength, endurance, explosiveness, quickness, agility and speed that has me nearing the completion of the 48 White Mountain 4000 footers for the second time. My training at Kilos has exceeded my original goal of maintenance and injury prevention. I am feeling ten years younger as I can now almost keep up competitively with the 20 and 30 somethings I play hockey with. Amid his true professionalism, Brad makes coming to the gym fun, because he encourages you to push harder in ways that make you laugh and also understand that he cares about each of us individually, and takes great joy in seeing us achieve our goals and walk out of Kilos with smiles on our faces.

best trainer I have ever worked with
When I first starting with metabolic resistance training, I discovered how amazing it felt to feel strong in addition to the decent level of fitness I had. It made everything I did in my daily life easier—carrying in groceries or wood, taking care of our family and keeping up with two kids. When the program I was part of changed hands to Kilos, my experience and satisfaction deepened that much all over again, and more. Brad meets every single client exactly where they are and finds the right challenge for each of us. For me personally, while I had decent strength, I needed to retrain my body to better form. I had been using some muscles to compensate for lack of strength elsewhere, and Brad honed in on those bad habits immediately. By his gentle and supportive correction, my overall strength has improved, my occasional injuries have gone away, and my confidence has increased. Retraining my muscle memory was enormously frustrating at times, but Brad knew just the right cues to direct me to correct my form, and how to not overwhelm me with too much at once. These several months in, my form (while definitely not perfect) is so much better. This has resulted in a healed shoulder, a much stronger core and an overall fitness that I didn’t imagine I would ever have. Over the course of the fall and winter, I have tracked my progress and seen concrete results in what I can do. Finally, Brad adjusts his program regularly enough to keep things interesting, but the underlying principles always remain the same, giving me a real trust in his understanding of the human body. He is the best trainer I have ever worked with and I have full confidence in his ability to work with a wide variety of fitness-levels and needs.
